Thought for the Week

“Management is doing things right; Leadership is doing the right things.”
-Peter S. Drucker

The focus and priorities of both roles are quite different yet interdependent. Without vision, there is a round robin of actions with an indeterminable outcome at best. Without implementation, one’s vision is just a “wouldn’t it be great” theoretic idea. I suggest my clients in leadership roles ask themselves daily, “What am I doing today to steer the vision?” Conversely, those in managerial roles ask themselves, “What am I doing to implement the vision?” The daily practice of asking yourself those key questions and following up with actions that are resonant with what your true role is, you’ll soon discover that your indeed are doing things right, and doing the right thing.

My Background
Lois Barth integrates her more than twenty years combined experience as a life coach, facilitator, solo-performance artist and holistic care practitioner. Combining her two passions, creative arts with the healing arts, she has supported clients in her work as a bodyworker in making a body/mind/spirit connection, her coaching clients in going for their dreams, and has been a catalyst for both laughter and learning in her work as a facilitator and performer.

As a stand-up comic and solo-performance artist, Lois brought laughter and healing to people in venues as diverse as singles events, eating disorder units, and drug and alcohol rehabs. She's performed at all the major clubs in New York City and was featured on the "Funny Fabulous Female" special. Lois created four solo one-woman shows, each highlighting a different theme of personal growth and empowerment. She has received three "Poets and Writers" Grants. In addition, she is an original member of "We Tell Stories," an award winning multi-cultural children's storytelling theatre company geared towards promoting literacy and diversity in schools and theatres throughout the country.

She designed implemented and created, "Celder-bration: Celebrating Our Elders” a day-long event which integrated life coaching, massage therapy, poetry, and art to the seniors which was replicated in Canada. As a writer, her essay, "Damn it . . . Call Me Beautiful," is in "Women Celebrate," an anthology of women's essays on beauty and aging. Her writing has been published in "The New York Times," "Massage Magazine" and "Beyond Mainstream" and she was featured on "Good Day New York."

Currently she is working on a book based on her last show, "1001 Dates from Hell.....And the Woman Who Lived Through Them," which chronicles the lessons learned while searching for her life partner, whom thankfully she has found. She is now a gratefully retired serial dater.

Do you long to:

1. Jump out of bed every morning excited about your life's work that is aligned with your unique purpose, gifts and contributions?

2. Create a "luscious life partner" in your life?

3. Embrace transition and obstacles from a place of enthusiasm versus dread, and actually have fun in the process?

4. Go the next level from a "good" to "great" or a "great" to "phenomenal" life?

If any of these resonate for you feel free to either e-mail me at:

or call me at 212-682-5225 and find out more about One Dream At A Time Life Coaching and receive your complementary initial consultation.

My Work
Lois is the Life Coach for Fitness Magazine's "Fitness Makeover" a year-long project to promote health and vitality from the inside out. Ms. Barth is a trained and authorized facilitator through the Empowerment Institute, Relationship Coaching Institute, and Life Blueprint Institute and is a licensed Massage Therapist. Her adage is, "Behind every blade of grass, there's an angel behind it, whispering, 'Grow! Grow!'" (The Talmud) Lois sees herself as "a gardener of greatness," nurturing clarity, compassion and laughter as the nutrients that allow dreams to take root and then blossom. Seeing each client as unique and individual, she begins her work with a detailed intake process, asking thought-provoking questions and does lots of "listening between the words." She then designs a curriculum to meet each individual's specific needs. Lois offers both in-person as well as phone sessions. In addition, she regularly teaches classes, workshops and seminars around the country.

Lois directs her clients to clarify their values and their vision for their lives, and then gets them motivated and on track to realizing those dreams. Her clients have created extraordinary results in their lives such as: manifesting their ideal careers, increased financial abundance, finding life partnerships, and losing weight, to writing "that book."

My Philosophy
When Michelangelo was asked how he created The David, he said, "I simply chipped away everything that wasn't David." This is one of my favorite quotes because it speaks to what my work is about. I support my clients in creating the greatest work of art—a life that is built around their vision, values and passions. As their vision manifests through consistent actions and personal responsibility, I supply tools and resources to assist them in "chipping away" and letting go of those limiting beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that are not in line with the manifestation of their "Personal David."

How does this happen and what does the process look like? People thrive in an environment of support, nurturance, inquisitiveness, authenticity, and playfulness, all of which are intrinsic to the process. Through a combination of thought-provoking questions, exercises and visualizations that are designed to address your specific needs, you will gain clarity and insights about what next steps you need to be taking towards your vision. As your life coach, I will "lovingly holding you accountable" in taking those actions
.

My Beliefs
I believe that being hard on one's self doesn't create long-term sustainable positive changes. However, by implementing what I call the "three C's:" curiosity, compassion, and consciousness, one can. My work is to support you in building a life around your strengths and passions.

I believe it's easier to let go of negative limiting beliefs from the past when you craft a well thought out and compelling vision for your future that really speaks to you. I also believe that quitting the "blame game" (both of yourself and others) and adopting the principle of personal responsibility is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Asking yourself the question, "What is the lesson?" in all experiences is far more productive then labeling the behavior good/bad/right/wrong.

Lastly, I believe that having a life that revolves around your values, passions and purpose is not only possible, it is your birthright. If what I say resonates for you, (or at the very least piques your curiosity) please feel free to either e-mail me at lois@1Dreamatatime.com or call me at 212-682-5225 and find out more about One Dream At A Time Life Coaching and receive your complementary initial consultation.
